Huang Shan (lots of pictures)

We went to Huang Shan, A.K.A. Yellow Mountain. This place is probably my most favorite place in China, and the prettiest place I have ever seen! It is B-E-A-utiful! We think we hiked around 13 miles. We only had the weekend to do it and everyone thought we were crazy for doing going just for two days. If we had a choice we would have done it in three or more days to relax, but our time is limited and we had to do it! Oh and if you are a fan of the movie Avatar, it was filmed here too!

During this Hike, I realized I am terrified of heights. I never thought I was, but most of the time on the mountain I was hugging the mountain side, or the railings when they weren't on the edge. I even got scared when Michael would get near the edge! Bleh!! I love pictures where you can see true emotions, I think this one shows my fear pretty well, don't you???

We rode the cable cars up and down for part of the hike, this is as we were starting out of the cable car station and viewing part of our ride. There were a few ups and downs along the way.

Bleh, still looking at this makes me go eeek. The scenery was excellent though if you can get past the thought of being so high up, if you look close you can see how it climbs the next hill.

On the top of the mountain, there are a few hotels, or you can pay to sleep on a tent on the basketball court. Also, Michael was a very good navigator especially with such a horrid map that we had!

The first stairs that we went on that were bolted in. We didn't know they were like this until we were below them!

The stairs on the left were the scariest ones for us to go down. The picture doesn't do justice for how steep these were! Plus knowing there wasn't anything below you for a very long time and seeing the big canyon wasn't helping. It is amazing what the mind can do to you!

This was the worst part for me, and my friend, she just froze and couldn't move! I sat down as close to the mountain as I could and "bumped it" down right after this picture was taken.

This picture was taken after we hiked down. If you look on the tallest peak you will see the scary stairs that were in the picture above. It doesn't really look steep, but it is!

I would not get on this ledge for the great photo opportunity! Luckily someone was brave enough to do it!

The Scenery was Beautiful.... I think I already said that.... Well it was! Just keep looking for yourself!

My favorite picture of the trip! Love the lurking clouds!

By the end of the hike, I was wishing I could use these guys to take me around. It was a great day!

Holy crap! I would have been right there with you! Those stairs, everything looked plenty steep to me. I'm glad it was so amazing though. Definitely makes the fear worth it.

Katie, I'm with you. Looking at those pictures makes my hands clammy. Beautiful landscape! I loved it in Avatar, too.

Holy cow... didn't think I was scared of heights either... funny what being inactive does to you. I use to rock climb-- and now I'm about to pee my pants just seeing Michael squatting on that little ledge with a backpack on. Any little gust of wind.... wow.

Avatar has beautiful scenery, that's for certain. But this place looks absolutely amazing because it is REAL. While the stairs are bolted in, I still don't know if I'd do the climb-- SCARY SCARY SCARY
